Premier league title leaders, Manchester United have begun their 2021/22 EPL campaign with an emphatic win at Old Trafford against rivals, Leeds United, today August 14.

The fixture between the two sides begun with the stylish arrival of United’s latest signing, Rafael Varane; who came out of the tunnel with his new number nineteen (19) jersey.

Varane, whose move to United has been characterised by mild complications was finally blistering with excitement as he posed with his new jersey at the start of his club’s first EPL clash this season.

The heightened mood at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ after Varane’s announcement was sustained with a spectacular first-half performance by the Red Devils who disarmed their opponents with tactful passes and decisive attempts at goal.

The energy of Paul Pogba, the resilience of Mctominay and the great thinking of Mason Greenwod was enough to keep the United fans cheering in the opening minutes of the heavily anticipated fixture.

After a beautiful spectacle of football on match day one, Manchester United finally drew first blood in the 31st minute with a sublime finish by Bruno Fernandes, aided by the midfield Stalwart, Paul Pogba. Even though Leeds keeper, Meisler forced to keep Bruno’s strike out, his touch was not strong enough to deny the Reds their first premier league goal.

With ample attacking intent from the two competing sides, the game was stopped for the commencement of the second-half, with Manchester United having had a greater share of ball possession.

Four minutes after Paul Tierney whistled for the second-half, Leeds pulled parity after a clinical strike by Ayling; who connected with a pass from Klich. The equaliser from Leeds poured cold water on the jubilant homes fans who had been yelling with excitement.

However, just when the momentum at the Theatre of Dreams was taking a dip, Mason Greenwood ignited the hopes of the United fans again, with a brilliant 52nd minute strike, occasioned by a Paul Pogba-led counter-attack.

United leveraged on the lead and added three more goals in the 53rd, 60th and 68th minutes respectively; bringing United’s tally to a total of five goals in their opening fixture against Leeds United.

In all, Bruno Fernandes found the net thrice, with two additional goals from Fred and Greenwood, giving Ole’s side a great start in their 2021/22 EPL campaign.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, who are also traditional contenders for a spot in the top-four, begun their campaign on a very underwhelming note; losing to newly promoted side Brentford by two goals to nil at the Brentford Community Stadium last night.
